Broadbent's Award-Winning History

Broadbent’s Country Ham has been delivering authentic Kentucky flavor for over a century. The business was officially founded in 1966 by Smith Broadbent II and his sons, along with the Bingham family of Louisville—giving rise to the “B & B” name. Though the Binghams later departed, the Broadbent name became synonymous with Trigg County’s legacy of traditionally cured meats. In 1999, Ronny and Beth Drennan of Fredonia, KY, purchased the company and continued its tradition of excellence. Their dedication was quickly recognized when Broadbent’s won the prestigious Grand Champion Ham award at the 2000 Kentucky State Fair. By 2023, Broadbent's had won a total of 22 Grand Champion Ham awards, with 15 of those under the ownership of Ronny & Beth Drennan.

In 2024, the company entered a new chapter with its purchase by chef and restaurant owner Josh Poling, who brings a fresh passion for Southern culinary heritage. Under his leadership, Broadbent’s remains committed to its time-honored curing techniques while exploring new opportunities to share its award-winning hams, bacon, and sausage with a wider audience. With a legacy rooted in craftsmanship and a future driven by innovation, Broadbent’s continues to set the standard for Kentucky country ham.

“Piggy Facts”

Would you like to know where your food comes from and what’s in it, well here’s some “Piggy Facts” about the hams, bellies and sausage trimmings that we purchase to make Broadbent’s Dry Cured and Smoked Country Ham, Bacon and Sausage.

Where do we buy our meat?

Seaboard Foods supplies our fresh hams, bellies and trimmings. The pigs are born and raised on their farms located in the Great Plains and Midwest. Pig comfort is a top priority. Their climate-controlled barns keep pigs comfortable and prevent exposure to extreme temperature swings. All fresh hams are purchased from Seaboard except our Heritage Breed Hams. These facts do not apply to the heritage breed hams.
